Road trips that start in the early morning are sublime. Filled with the promise of open highway and burgeoning daylight. Punctuated by quiet breakfasts, beachfront diners and old tunes on the radio. The cares of yesterday get lost in this world of scenic routes, unfolded maps and gas station postcards. It’s certainly true — sooner or later, wanderlust gets the better of us and we take to the road.
A couple of weeks ago, I took a weekend trip with Brett along the central California coast. It was stormy sort of weekend - hence my title for this post (a peculiar lyric from this song) - but I managed to take some photos and compiled them in a little online magazine/travel journal. Beautiful! I am becoming a little obsessed with issuu myself.
i love succulents. I had to laugh at your title. You should try living ireland!
Again! Such a lovely project, makes me inspired to do something with my travel photos.
Love every project of yours.
I grew up spending my summers along the central coast...this brought back such wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing your awe-inspiring work.
It's "cold and damp" in California maybe 8% of the whole year! It's beautiful and 80 degrees today. No need to hate!
Hi Livy, when I was flipping thru your mag pages, it made me smile thinking of where you started and the journey you've been on. I love my vicarious "back seat" view of this ride you're on. Can't wait to see the next stop. So proud of all you're accomplishing girl! Aloha, Stacy P.S. Love Love your Mag! Gorgeous...as always. :)
Very pretty! I love the photos of Avila, it's such a beautiful place. You passed my town on your trip. It's definitely not cold and damp anymore, it's 90 degrees and it was even hotter yesterday!
I absolutely LOVELOVELOVE your blog. It's perfection.
Hi Alyssa - The title is a lyric from an old standard called "The Lady is a Tramp." Frank Sinatra's recording of it is probably the most well known. I always thought it was a peculiar thing to say, being a southern California native, but it was a fitting title for my rainy weekend.
Awww Stacy! Your comments are the best! So encouraging! Blogging has been a great ride, I think it's really helped me improve my skills and it's fun (though sometimes it makes me cringe) to look back on the really old stuff that I thought was *so great* when I first posted it. Haha.
You are very talented. Delightful travel tale and beautiful photos. Love your style.
Wow, that is so cool! Nicely done.
I've linked to your blog in my blog's sidebar. I hope that's ok! Let me know if you'd like me to remove the link.

This is gorgeous. Your photos are amazing!
Lovely & dreamy...I have lived on the Central Coast for 20 year...you really caught the essence beautifully! Next time you will have to drive up through North County...with all of our wineries & fabulous restaurants!!!
Wonderful story...thank you for sharing!!
Take Care...Kristin
What a wonderful way to document a little road trip. Your photos and captions are so dreamy. You have made me inspired to do some snazzy with our travel photos. Thanks for the inspiration sweet lady!
This is incredibly beautiful!
Thank you for sharing :)
I was just reminiscing about my visit to Hearst Castle last August, it was so lovely up there! I still remember exactly how the seabreeze felt coming up the mountain and the smell of the citrus trees
I love your e-mag. Beautifully, beautifully done. I see that you are using Issuu...but was wondering what you used to design your pages/pdf's - In-Design? I do a photography/travel blog - Chasing Santa Fe - and want to do a quartly e-zine and maybe shorter ones along the way. Let me know when you have a moment. Thanks again for delighting my day...
this is like, maybe too good to be true. loving every last bit of this.
beautiful. it sounds like a lovely weekend. and i couldn't agree more, start road trips bright and early in the morning is the only way to do it.
Hi Cynthia-
I used Photoshop to create these layouts, but InDesign is the proper tool for the job. I really don't have a good excuse for choosing photoshop over InDesign, other than I didn't really plan on doing a magazine from the get go. I started editing my photos in photoshop, and then it evolved from there. I also like being able to edit my photos within the page layout; using InDesign would require you to edit your image in Photoshop, save and then return to the InDesign file to see the page layout with updated image. Small difference, but somehow those instant visuals make it easier for me. However, the workspace gets pretty chaotic with tons of layers; saving each page of the spread into .pdfs is way more of a pain then it would have been in InDesign. Long story short, I wouldn't attempt to use photoshop for a magazine that was any longer than this one.

What a fantastic mag, I really love your work, the photo's are very inspiring, I wish we had such beautiful buildings and country side to shoot here, though my road trip to Bundaberg here in Queensland Australia at Easter, would be far less interesting, bush, Queenslander style pubs and not much more, I'll be taking photos but I could only dream of making them this inspiring! :) Fantastic work! All The Best Louise
What an amazing project. Thank you.

Miss Livy,
Your photos are so stunning. Your entire blog is so stunning! I love the dreamy quality that seems to radiate from every page. Oh! I know what it is! I find your blog very relaxing. In a GOOD way. It also makes me want to enroll in a photography class, asap! ;)
Thanks so much for inspiring a daydream,

lovely post! we did that trip, it's a beautiful part of the world.
This is amazingly gorgeous!!! My fiance & I are flying to San Diego and then road-tripping it all the way back up to Seattle...you have so inspired me...thank you for sharing all of this loveliness :)
Brynn - what a fantastic trip! I love San Diego but I'm a little biased (it's my home county). The coast highway 101 from about Del Mar to Carlsbad is picture-perfect California. Every time I take a drive out there I feel truly blessed!
you missed out on san luis obispo
I've revisited this so many times, it's stunning! I love the typography/photography combo and especially love the typeface used for "California," wondering, was this sourced or customized?
Hi Brittany, This type is a font called Angel Tears.
