Watercolor Wings

I've been doing a little watercolor painting in spare moments, working my way through the birds of southern California. Eventually I hope to have enough paintings to design a custom field guide for my mother, who loves watching feathered visitors alight in the backyard trees.

A wonderful idea and incredible execution. Did you have the sheets printed with the name and leaf logo beforehand? What paper did you use? I would love to do this for our study room. Thanks for the great inspiration! xoxo

Hello everyone! - I wanted to stop in and answer your questions....
The paintings are done on plain watercolor paper (I have a Moleskine sketchbook with watercolor paper). I reference photographs of the birds that I find online and in some birdwatching books we have. After the paintings are complete I scan them and then put the finishing touches on in photoshop - like the text and the the leaf motif (which is a sketch of a fern I did a while s ago.

Ummm, I would be tempted to ALSO take those bird drawings and do a home scrapbook-cookbook with them (no recipes for fowl of course). I don't actually COOK a lot, but I love to combine my art work and recipes so that when I occasionally do get one out, I remember something I created.

But the book for your mother sounds like the top priority.

Lovely delicate work.

How very beautiful! You may want to consider putting a credit watermark on your photos, or even just some initials. I am seeing the Carolina Wren painting on Pinterest without any source or credit.

Lovely, lovely work!!!!!

Found your work through Pinterest. So charming! You should put the bird collection into a book. I'd buy it in a
heartbeat! Beautiful.
