Alma Mater

The LA apartment is packed away into brown cardboard and this feels like the true farewell. During our last weeks here, Nikki and I finally had the campus photo shoot we've talked about for so long. It was an effort to capture details that eventually escape memory's grasp - the quietude of that small arcaded corridor east of Royce. The sweeping blue fir nearby, and that ethereal way its branches illuminate the shadows. Perhaps we were also after something like the candid shots in the old twenties and thirties yearbooks I found at the library one fall - long-ago coeds posing against brick and ivy in oxford heels, cloche hats and tailored coats. Chasing that old collegiate glamor, I'm quite sure that lipstick and a good dress are indispensable. Enter Ingrid by Shabby Apple, a vintage inspired number from their 1943 collection. It checks out in my book - a high waist, versatile black and white, and ruffles that make just enough of a statement. And the best news? Shabby Apple has been so kind as to offer you all a chance to win one of their dresses. Just comment here and share your favorite Shabby Apple dress. The contest is open to U.S. residents only and will end next Friday at midnight, PST. Also be sure to leave an email or a way to contact you should you win. Good luck!Update: The comments are now closed. The randomly selected winner is comment Number 5 - Amy Kelly! Congratulations!

Lovely shoot. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite from the always fabulous Shabby Apple, but the Penelope & Odysseus sure is extra pretty!

These photos are divine. I really love the feeling you captured, it's definitely reminiscent of times gone by.

I really love Shabby Apple's Truman dress, I think it would look fabulous and sophisticated with boots for fall.

So glad you introduced me to Shabby Apple! My 14-year-old daughter will admire the styles, as well. I think my favorite -- at this moment, anyway -- is a little black dress called V.P. It's sophisticated, yet innocent, and looks to be very versatile.

I just too a scroll down your blog, and seriously, it is all beautiful! I love the headings you put on many of your photographs.
I'm yet to properly start my blog, I spend too much time looking at other peoples to make my own, but I will! haha.
And these photos are really cute, living on campus would be so much fun. :)

Ooooh, Shabby Apple came on my radar when they did the Bright Side Project, though the prices are a bit out of my range. Also, as a 6'1" lady, the sizing worries me a bit. But if I were to pick one of the dresses I would be thrilled if it fit and not be all practical about it, I would love either the G Cooper or the West Coast Swing dresses. I went through the whole site, and kept coming back to the 1943 collection!

Ok, so first of all, thank you for introducing me to Shabby Apple. It was incredibly difficult to choose three favorites, let alone one! My favorites are V.P., Sandstone, and Cider. Goodness. My closet now needs a complete makeover.

And second, this shoot is beautiful. I wish I had done something like that to remember my school by. I'm only beginning to realize how sad I am that I won't be beginning another semester in a few weeks.

Livy,
Your photoshoot was absolutely gorgeous, and I think that in black and white, the photos might really look like they were taken from 1920's yearbooks. I love the dress as well, and would love to win a Shabby Apple frock of my own! Thanks for the opportunity, and for the beautiful things you post.
