I turned 21 last week, so some photos are in order! First off, I love our apartment's kitchen; checkered floors and wainscoting are the perfect backdrop for this. And of course the ice cream parlor chairs, which I don't think I've ever posted about - they're from that phase of crazy furniture refinishing circa Summer '08, that also included the dresser and the farmhouse kitchen table. They were originally chipped, lime green, Craigslist finds, but my roommate and I each refinished one in pale yellow - it was quite laborious, scraping paint off all that twisty metal, but definitely worth it. Anyway on to more birthday-ish things...
The table setting was really just a gathering of odds and ends, loosely themed: decks of cards (for playing 21!), vintage buttons, dice and dominoes (as stand-ins for poker chips), an apothecary jar filled with other notions from thread to pearls, champagne flutes, striped cocktail napkins, mini strawberry shortcakes (made from upside down cupcakes + berries and cream), sparkling pink lemonade (Trader Joe's), cupcakes with pennant flag toppers (diy), bakery boxes for cupcakes to-go (Martha Stewart Crafts), ribbon "streamers" (just spools of quarter inch ribbon from Michaels), and finally my favorite part - handmade mini triangle bunting (I cut a bunch of triangles from double sided cardstock and sewed them together on the machine, it was a surprisingly quick and easy project).
Have a lovely week!

Happy, happy birthday! Such loveliness and creativity! Warmest wishes for a marvelous 21st year and thank you for sharing the beauty.
I want to step right in to your birthday party from these photos! I have been planning a similar birthday party for myself in my head. There is an adorable little pastry shop here in New Orleans that I spotted weeks ago that has a parlor theme that reminds me of the party you had and the party I am planning. I will have to send you photos- you'll love!

You have such a wonderful blog I'm amazed how you even did it! Could I ask you how you took those pictures and posted them? I'm really intrigued and honestly I really want to learn!! Is it a camera or a program that assisted you in your creations?
I do understand if its too personal to share. But i still have to say... AMAZING!! =)
I second EverythingElseMe's comment. Do you just use photoshop for the pictures? They're amazing!!!
I'm going to third that request for a photo-how to. I love the scalloped edges...I find those on my ancestors photos (pre 1950s) but not so much anymore. If you're using a physical printer I'd love to know where you find the paper.
and I'm going to say that your party was lovely. Happy Birthday!
Hello!
thanks for all the lovely comments everyone!In response to your questions... the photos are all digital. I use a pretty modest little point and shoot digital camera - it's a Nikon Coolpix LX - and only photograph in natural light or with the help of daylight bulbs (with some thin white fabric to diffuse the light) in places that are too dark (like my kitchen). After I upload the pictures I do some basic editing to correct color and brightness. The borders, text, and page layout arrangements all happen in Photoshop elements. Sometimes I add scans from my own collection, found-free-to-use layers, or scans of my artwork. To give photos the "old" look, like in the "Pete Post," I experiment a lot with using different layers and altering colors.
* Opps, that's a Nikon Coolpix L1
Wow! Everything looks deliciously festive. A-mazing. I am so inspired to do something special for my May birthday. Love the yellow chairs — worth the hard work.
Happy birthday! You are just so talented. It just looks like the prettiest little party. You have a great future ahead! I'd love to figure out how to do scalloped edges in Photoshop - I really have no clue. This makes me ashamed to post any of my photos on my blog!
couldn't be cuter. really, really adorable.
Adorable! HBD too! :)
